River watch/ Chippenhook Creek

2010 Ranger crew completing water sampling
For several years now the LGSC has been conducting water sampling on several streams but most specifically on the Chippenhook creek which runs just East of Brockville. The majority of the sampling has been conducted in the summer by the LGSC Stewardship Rangers. This stream empties into the St. Lawrence. In the past the Stewardship council has installed water gauges at several locations as well as conducted water sampling and testing. As many know the water quality in our lakes and river depends on the smaller streams and creeks that feed in to them, this is why it is important to monitor and keep our waterways no matter how small healthy.
The Chippenhook Creek has had several other projects completed on it. The creek is home to some of our at risk turtles and has had several basking rafts installed as well as two nesting boxes for turtles, more information on these projects can be found on out Turtles at Risk Page.
